i think i just heard gunshots outside, 12 or 13 of them. i live in fort greene across the street from the walt whitman projects. anyone else hear this? there were a lot of banging noises a few minutes earlier, but people were talking and laughing, and now it’s completely silent outside. i counted the number of gunshots because there are always loud explosion-like noises around here late at night, but just a couple days ago my neighbor was telling us how he’d heard the sounds of someone emptying a clip outside maybe a month ago. 12 or 13 seems pretty close to whatever number of bullets he said a clip contains. he also said he called the police to report it, and they never came—even though the nearest precinct is less than a block away.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/29/city-hall-art-project-sets-off-a-rolling-of-the-eyes/

So I look at this and I think a few things.

1) Fairy tale
2) The three little pigs
3) Guard booths at City Hall staffed full-time by NYPD officers
4) Richard Woods pulled one on the Public Art Fund

I’m not sure if that connection is intentional or not, but this project could’ve been done anywhere in the five boroughs - why on the police booths at City Hall?

I’m all for public art and whimsy, but I personally find this to be incredibly insensitive to the officers who staff those booths.

I don’t think you’ve written about this yet, but I think it’s an interesting take on it that none of the other articles I’ve seen about it have touched on. Run with it. Enjoy!

The Coney Island bound F train was just pulling out of Bergen Street when it stopped for a few minutes. The they evacuated the train and the first few cars had to walk to the back of the train to exit out of the cars that were still at the platform. Then a bunch of cops and detectives and a police dog came…cops were yelling to each other about a “witness” and somebody or something getting hit…then the train pulled away and when the next train came we all piled on and went home. Does anyone know what happened?

I want to report someone. I was on my way to the train station around 4:35am and around the corner of 66th ave and queens blvd(rego park), a burgundy old squarish car was double parked. As soon as I passed the car I noticed him pull away and drive past me and stopped at the end of 67th ave and queens blvd. Near CVS drugstore. Once I got near that car, I noticed the light in the car was lit. I looked inside was a white man with a blue or black baseball cap flashing and waving his private parts at me and smiling.

Unfortunately, it was dark and I was alone and afraid to stop and take his picture. I think he lives in that area. Please post this so that all single women in that area knows that there’s someone like that in the neighborhood. If this is not the correct place for me to send this pls let me know where I can send this to. Thank you.

With regards to the pedicab accident in Williamsburg.
I had just turned the corner off of Broadway and onto Bedford av when the pedicab emerged from the foot pass about 10 feet in front of me at what looked like full unrestricted speed, a yellow cab zoomed past on the avenue and seem to just clear past the pedicab, someone on the pedicab yelled Whoo…, the pedicab seem to stop dead in the middle of Bedford av, flip up and over about 6 feet in the air projecting the female passenger clear across the rest of the street ant the sidewalk and onto the fence. One passenger seem to roll off to the side and was immediately on his feet the other two were laid out under the turned over pedicab.
Speed seemed to be the object of that ride. The pedicab was coming down so fast that there was no way it could have stopped before it hit the opposite curb and the fence across the avenue. At the time I did not think the Taxi and the pedicab touched but rather that the pedicab flipped on its own but in such a short instant it would be impossible to tel.
That night on my way home I actually searched the middle of the street for a pot hole or a crack that could have caused the pedicab to flip. What I did find was a fresh scrape in the street probably where the broken back half of the cab hit the street and caused it to flip
I take that path on my bike several time a day had it not been raining I would have been climbing up that path as the pedicab was coming down. I usually ride down the path on my way home as fast as I can hitting the break at the last minute before I get to Bedford av. I am going to be a little more careful and would recommend a little more caution and mutual respect from all of us riders.
