Readers, WHYY’s It’s Our City, in partnership with the Philadelphia Daily News, will feature the Philadelphia School District superintendent, Arlene Ackerman, and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter’s chief education officer, Lori Shorr, in an interview October 3.

The interview will air live on WHYY 91FM. WHYY will open its phone lines and accept e-mails before and during the interview, which will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Listeners are also encouraged to submit their questions for the show by e-mail to city@whyy.org.

Ackerman and Shorr are expected to address Nutter’s plan for the public school system in the face of Philadelphia’s projected $450 million budget gap. The mayor recently outlined an initiative to halve the city’s 45 percent high school dropout rate and double the number of Philadelphians who earn college degrees — both in seven years.

For more information about additional broadcasts, visit the It’s Our City Web site, “www.whyy.org/city”.

I’ve been seeing these puzzle pieces around Philly, two last week and one today, and I went to the site at one-one-one.net and it redirected to a flickr pool with the directions to “Shoot. Upload. Solve.” Have you guys seen this? I thought I should let you know. I think the point is to build the puzzle in it’s entirety, but I didn’t have my camera with me to contribute. I think it’s a pretty great game the city can play.

Hi, I would like to suggest trainlogic.net. It offers a free mobile application for train commuters that displays train schedule and includes trip planner. SEPTA, PATCO and NJ TRANSIT are all included. The beauty of this application is that it does not need to go online each time to get the schedule - it stores the schedules locally on the phone - which makes the app much faster and also means anyone (even people without internet access on the phone, still a vast majority) can use it. The schedule updates are downloadable. For more details please visit the website or contact info@trainlogic.net.

Do you like to ride a bike? Do you want our cities to be powered by renewable energy?

Join Climate Ride, the first ever multi-day bicycle tour to promote renewable energy and solutions to global warming. And the best part? It charts a course right through the outskirts of the Philadelphia area.

From September 20th to 24th, join us for a ride from New York City to Washington, D.C., following scenic back country roads through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

Along the way, climate experts will address the cyclists on the solutions to our climate problem. This is a unique event - it’s a fund raiser and a climate conference on wheels.

Registration is open, and a few spots are still available. Visit www.climateride.org for more info.
